Healing Dogs Their Way
The Real Solutions Your Dog Deserves!
There are 84 million dogs in North America and 42 million of them need to improve their health. Dogs are itching, scratching, losing hair, biting themselves, vomiting, limping, shaking, trembling, reacting to food, and suffering major breakdowns of the immune system like never before. And hard though it may be to accept, we’re to blame. Unsustainable breeding practices, poor attention to healthy lifestyle requirements, a dog food industry pre-occupied with profit and market share, a focus on toxic meat, and an allopathic veterinary establishment too long influenced by big pharma… have all combined in a perfect storm of inattention and disregard. And our dogs are suffering.
When pet parents turn to professionals for help, owners are frequently being asked to put their trust in medications, vaccines, and surgeries which may temporarily address symptoms of illness while, as often as not, causing others. When these narrowly focussed methods ultimately fail to restore the health of a sick dog, discouraged owners reluctantly lower their expectations.
Conventional treatment methods are mostly helpless in the face of millions of food allergies, multiple immune disorders, vaccinosis, the “plastic cone” epidemic, and rising deaths due to cancer. It’s time for a new paradigm based on a deeper understanding of our dogs and a sensitive, sensible approach to their health care. With over twenty-five years of experience and thousands of success cases, Marijke has done just that. She bridges animal science, nutrition, the holistic health model, and medical intuition to deliver this and much more. She shows readers how proper diet, lifestyle, the promotion of wellness, and a holistic understanding of the unique remarkable being that is your dog can lift your beloved companion out of a world of needless suffering and put them back on their feet again.
Dog lovers of all breeds will gain comprehensive, detailed, and cutting edge information on the true and underlying causes of canine un-wellness and specific health conditions. Practical solutions to health care are effectively delivered with definitive programs based on diet, nutrition, supplements, herbal remedies, homeopathic medicines, and lifestyle changes. The importance of food and its relationship with disease is emphasized in great detail. There is extensive and objective information about every type of dog food and diet currently available: raw food, cooked food, home-made food, and commercial kibbles. She also calls much needed attention to meat toxicity – a topic that has not yet been brought to the forefront due to the marketing influence of the pet food companies.
With an intriguing dissertation Marijke also disputes the commonly held assertion that we should treat and feed our dogs like wolves and how understanding the unique lifestyle differences, including food, between domestic dogs and their wild ancestors can change the face of modern dog-keeping. She includes a description of nutrigenomics and epigenetics, both new branches of science which explain why our dogs have adapted so well and will continue to do so in their domestic environment populated by humans. She has also included a hard-hitting chapter on the horrors of wide-spread breeding – whether it is considered reputable or non-reputable – and how these practices influence the health and behaviour of all dogs, not just dogs in the shelters.
And, in a fascinating and revealing chapter, dog lovers will learn how canine emotions, the human-canine relationship, and the health of the pet parent all affect the health and emotional well-being of our dogs. Animal communication, the inter-species bonds, and the rainbow bridge is a fascinating chapter which concludes the book and ends with The Twelve Canine Commandments.
Marijke’s exceptional health care methods are not an alternative; her thousands of clients from all walks of life consider them mainstream. Diet, nutrition, and natural medicine belong smack-dab in the middle of primary health care. Your dog needs you to read this book!
“What makes Marijke’s book extraordinary is that it combines the scientific and the holistic information that will truly allow you to understand how to be your dog’s best friend.” …Amy-Jo S.
“I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The most important thing is that it’s not a book that simply tells dog owners what do to; it’s a book that explains why. Whether you are a first-time dog owner or someone who has been around dogs all your life, this is an important and valuable reference. If you love your dogs, it’s up to you to safeguard their wellbeing and quality of life, and this book will help you do just that. …Warren L.
