Horse Health Consultations

What is a Horse Health Consultation?

Comprehensive health work-ups are available for horses whose health problems are chronic or more complex. The work-ups are performed by Marijke van de Water, B.Sc., DHMS. By using a unique technique of kinesiology, known as The Marijke Method™, she is able to evaluate health status and identify the underlying problems which are causing symptoms. These problems may vary from feed intolerances in the diet to nutritional deficiencies to poor organ function, poor hoof function and/or to emotional and training problems. Once the issues have been identified they are then corrected with an individual health program using diet, nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, common-sense horse-keeping, hoof trimming guidance and intuitive communications.

The following health conditions are commonly addressed.

  • Laminitis
  • Equine Metabolic syndrome
  • Digestive Conditions
  • Colic
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Immune Disorders
  • Hormone Imbalances
  • Allergies
  • Skin Conditions
  • Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Parasite Programs
  • Behaviour and Emotions
  • Vaccinosis

What is The Marijke Method™?

The Marijke Method™ was developed from her practice of over twenty years working on horses and people. The Marijke Method™ is a method of energy testing (kinesiology) that works by “testing” the electromagnetic energy field around organs, body systems, foods, nutrients and remedies. Kinesiology enables the practitioner to “track” the body systems and many of its functions – it identifies blocked energy fields, pinpoints specific problems and assesses the underlying cause. Kinesiology can be performed in the physical presence of a horse or at a distance, known as remote testing. Remote testing is possible because all imbalances present themselves in the electromagnetic field, a field which is beyond space and time. Electromagnetic fields surround every part of the body including connective tissue, blood, the nervous system, the immune system and all other body organs. This field is a fundamental force of nature and is a unique “fingerprint” for every animal and every person.

How to Schedule a Consultation

To schedule a consultation please fill out the intake form and return to the Riva’s office by fax, mail or email. Include 2 pictures of your horse – one portrait picture and one complete body picture (without a blanket). For laminitis, hoof problems or soreness we also require 3 hoof pictures of one front hoof:

  1. One picture of the bottom sole (clean)
  2. One picture of the side of the hoof taken from GROUND level
  3. One picture of the front of the hoof taken from GROUND level

Hoof pictures should be within one week of the last trim. Take photos outside in good light. Ensure that pictures are not blurred.

Work-ups are done on a first-come, first-serve basis although urgent cases will be given priority. Upon completion and before invoicing you will receive a written report from Marijke detailing the diet and nutrition program, remedy and supplement program, any recommended lifestyle changes, as well as any “words of wisdom” that your horse would like you to know.

Consultation Fees

Distance Consultations: $200

Barn Visits or Haul-Ins:
$150.00 (Barn call mileage may be added depending on location.)

*Please note that we make every effort to support our health programs by answering questions, addressing concerns and making adjustments where required for the first 60 days after the consultation. After this time, there are usually too many shifts and changes to the body and to the general health, lives and lifestyles for us to give effective advice based on the original situation. To maximize results we therefore recommend arranging for a new consultation.
