Hair Analysis

Information for Hair Analysis Services

A hair analysis is a scientific test which accurately measures the mineral content of the hair using atomic absorption methods. Mineral content of the hair reflects the mineral content of the body’s tissues. If a mineral deficiency or excess exists in the hair, it usually indicates a mineral deficiency or excess within the body, although sometimes it can actually mean the reverse. It can also indicate whether that mineral is bioavailable to the cells and tissues.

Hair mineral analyses are also very accurate in determining the levels of toxic heavy metals – a problem which is becoming all too common in an ever-increasing toxic world. Toxic metals such as mercury, aluminum, arsenic and/or lead can have a profound impact on health and can be very destructive. Routine blood tests cannot detect chronic heavy-metal poisoning; however, tissue mineral analysis, using atomic absorption, is considered a legitimate method.

A mineral hair analysis can also reveal a variety of different nutritional and health problems as well as the status of many organs and glands, including the liver and kidneys; and thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal glands. It can detect adrenal dysfunction, digestive disturbances, thyroid and pituitary dysfunction, blood sugar imbalances, anemia, and inflammation.

A hair analysis can detect these imbalances and problems, where often conventional blood testing cannot. Nutritional physiology takes place at the cellular level, not in the blood. Blood levels of nutrients and minerals are kept within very narrow limits by the body and are slow to change; thus, blood levels are not a true reflection of the nutrient status within the tissues, organs and glands which are all often depleted before the blood is. In contrast, tissue mineral analysis provides information about cellular activity within the tissues and the metabolism of all nutrients throughout the body.

Common causes of a mineral imbalance are poor diet, mal-digestion of foods, nutrient deficiencies, medications, stress, and/or the accumulation of toxic or heavy metals.

The results of a hair tissue mineral analysis includes a complete written report prepared by Marijke with a laboratory bar graph which shows the values of over 30 minerals and elements, 8 toxic heavy metals and 15 mineral ratios. Hair analysis is an invaluable screening tool which guides diet choices and a recommended supplement program for optimum health and wellness.

Obtaining a Hair Sample

We need approximately 125 mg (about ½ Tablespoon) taken as close to the skin as possible. Take from the base of the mane for horses and from the chest area for dogs and cats. The hair should be no longer than 1-1/2 inches. For horses and/or for long-haired dogs and cats cut the extra length off and keep the 1-1/2 inch section which was closest to their skin. For outdoor animals wash the testing area with rubbing alcohol and let dry completely before taking the sample.

Place the hair sample in the provided envelope or in a paper envelope. Do not use plastic or zip-lock baggies and do not tape the sample to a piece of paper or put it in aluminum foil. Plastic, glue and aluminum will contaminate the hair sample.

Return the envelope with sample to Marijke’s Intuitive Healing Services along with the completed Intake Form and a picture of your pet. You may also email the picture and/or email/fax the intake form.

Cost per animal: $195.00 + $9.75 GST = $204.75 CDN

You can either include a cheque with your sample or the order desk will contact you for billing information on receipt of the hair sample.

Please make cheques out to Marijke’s Intuitive Healing Services.

Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing the results.
